Official Toronto Raptors Thread

The game deciding possession/sequence basically summed up the trade.

Ibaka at the line shooting 2. Raptors down by 2. He makes the first, misses the second. Spurs get the ball, DeRozan dribbles it up the court, Lowry forces him to stumble and fall, Kawhi steals the ball and scores to give Raptors the lead (and the win)!

Teams have until the end of the week to buyout guys. Meeks 10 day deal I believe ends before this window, so Raptors still have some room if they want to go after a guy bought out. I wouldn't be surprised if Ujiri had a name or two in mind to sign but is just waiting to see if any surprise names hit the market.

Raptors beat Celtics badly. One of their biggest wins vs Boston in franchise history (bonus we did it on TNT, which is weird because Raptors usually suck on TNT/ESPN).

21 games remaining on the season. Funny thing, the way the east is going, Raptors could go 0-21 and finish 5th. Speaking of playoff spot, it's tough to know where I'd want Raptors to finish. If playoffs began today, they'd face Pacers in rd2. But 76ers are just 1 game back. Do we hope Raptors get the 1 seed and play winner of what is likely gonna be Celtiics vs 76ers/Pacers, or do we hope for 2 seed, and play either Pacers or 76ers in rd2?

And on TV I heard them talking about the whole Kawhi rest stuff, and what they said did sound interesting and I wonder if part of it was their plan all along. There's currently 21 games left, Kawhi has played 45. 60 games for the regular season seems like a good number of games to play. If he played all remaining games minus back to backs, he'd play 18. So they have 3 other games to think about "load management". The final game of season (on road vs TWolves) I'd pick as 1 of those 3. Other 2 can just be whenever they want.

Sounds like there's mutual interest in Gortat. Wouldn't be a bad guy to add simply to eat up minutes down the stretch. Maybe used in specific matchups in playoffs too, but really a regular season add to give the other bigs rest.

Meeks isn't getting another 10 day deal. Given that Kawhi is still going to have more load management days (and recently even admitted he doesn't care really about the regular season. Playoffs are what matters), a Gortat signing would still leave a spot open for another 10 day F/G signing if they want to add someone to OG, Green, Mccaw, Powell.

Just a few weeks until playoffs. Based on how everything is going, starting lineup should be:
Gasol,Siakam,Kawhi,Green,Lowry

And then FVV,Ibaka,OG,Powell on bench. That's it.

Bench offensively hasn't been bad this month, but defensively they've been horrible. Jeremy Lin weighs them down alot(he's a -71 since joining. For comparison, Siakam is +131). Not that anyone should expect him to play in the playoffs minus a last minute garbage time role.

Raptors basically locked in the 2 seed. But in the east 6-8 is wide open still. Raptors will be playing 2nd best of Pistons,Nets,Magic,Heat. Heat would be easiest, but for some reason Magic and Pistons had Raptors number all season.

Funny hearing some comments on Raptors playoff chances. Shaq specifically. Past years it's all "Raptors have no superstars. You can't win without any". Now this year it's "They ONLY have 1 superstar? That won't do it.". Can't wait to see playoff Kawhi go all out. Every single load management day has been leading to April/May/June.

Raptors vs Magic in playoffs.

Magic have given Raptors trouble. However, the biggest thing to remember is that Raptors have played Magic just 1 time this year with Kawhi,Lowry,Gasol in lineup (and Raptors won by 12). Obviously if Orlando gives them trouble, that doesn't mean good things for a possible matchup vs 76ers and Bucks.

We finally get to see Playoff Kawhi. One of best playoff performers in NBA history (3rd highest win share per 48 mins, behind LeBron and Jordan). For reference, DeRozan wasn't even in the top 300.

I say Raptors in 5.

Glad to see Lowry in playoff form already. Holy fuck what an awful game.

Amount of easy shots they missed was ridiculous.

Maybe Lowry has been the problem all along?

This roster is too good to get embarrassed in playoffs again.

If this years team cant get job done, dont know if I can have faith in future teams.

If this team can’t get it done, Kawhi is gone and it’s going to be torn down to the foundation.

Basically. Anything but a finals appearance wouldn't be a good thing for Raptors.

Can't just be like "___ were better, doesn't mean the Raptors weren't good" each year.

Lowry being dealt should be first thing that happens.

Raptors once again becoming the laughingstock of the league. Hopefully they can just shut everyone up and win next 4.

You have to put alot of the blame on Lowry though. In his Raptors career they're 1-9 in GM1s. He shots 31.7 from the field and 19% from 3. And with numbers that bad, he takes 12 shots a game, half of those shots are 3s. If he's not hitting them, why continue to do it?

His assist numbers are good despite his poor shooting. Just focus on passing and let the other guys who can actually score shoot the ball.

Raptors take 2-1 series lead despite refs helping Magic big time.

Raptors had 10FT, Magic 23.

In this series, Raptors averaging 14FT a game, fewest in playoffs. They averaged 22 in regular season. Of all teams with a win in playoffs, Raptors are 4FTA per game behind next closest team.

Cant say its style of play because they are one of leaders in drives per game(meaning they go to basket, getting involved in these contact plays)
