Harsh discipline for Sparks outrages interweb

Marlies goalie Garret Sparks has been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team policy, the Maple Leafs confirmed Saturday.

According to a TSN report, Sparks took offence to crude comments about a disabled person by users of a Facebook group for goalies and replied to one member: “I want to go to open hockey with you, drag you out to center ice and beat you into a (expletive) pulp until you can’t run that (expletive) little mouth of yours. God, you sound like a 13-year-old girl.”

Sparks is a frequent contributor to the website GGSUnited.com, with 20,000-plus members, many of them netminders from around the world.

“(Garret) was sent home for some team policy reasons when we were on the road trip (in New York),” Marlies coach Sheldon Keefe told TSN after a 4-1 win over the Utica Comets on Saturday at the Air Canada Centre.

“I’m familiar with the circumstances, but we’re not going to comment any further from there. Management handled the situation.”
