Laptop Specs

Recommended Posts

Hi friends,

I'm gonna be shopping around for a new laptop. However, I am not tech smart and I'd like to make an informed buy without overpaying for a crappy product. I'm gonna be looking in the $500-$900 range and I want to know what kind of specs to look for in a mid-tier (I guess it'd be mid-tier?) laptop. All I need it for is to post on here with you beautiful people, view some porn, watch netflix/youtube and surf the internet. I don't game so my needs are basic but I want something a little better than just a $300 chromebook, something that will hopefully last me 3 years.

I also want one with a screen size of 14 inches. I think the 15 and 17 ones are too big. I'm finding most laptops to be a little more expensive for the smaller screen hence my price range.

Thanks you fantastic people you.

For your uses virtually anything will suffice but I'll toss you a few ideas. Do you care at all about weight? Obviously portability is something you're looking at.

14 specifically will really limit your options though tbh. 13 or 15 is where most screens fall.

Nice, I wasn't expecting links. 13 would work as well.

Judging by your recommendation, I should be looking at an i5, dual-core, 8 GB ram? Any other specs to be mindful of?

Seems a big pricey for an HP though. I've always considered HP to be a cheaper brand. I've been looking into ASUS and Lenovo mainly.

Asus is hit and miss in their budget lines. HP I find to be generally better in the price range you're aiming at. I wouldn't classify them as a cheap brand at all.

I'd say an i5, and 8gb of RAM is a good baseline look for. If you can find a good deal on one of the i5-8250u laptops those are a nice find as they are quad cores and much powerful, but for your purposes mentioned OP not necessary. Just nice to have

My medium range Asus laptop from 8 years ago still runs. Budget Lenovo screen fried within 2 years. Went with an HP spectre and the motherboard died. Luckily I bought the Windows Store warranty. Got myself a Lenovo Yoga 910 and it's been great so far. Out of personal experience even the high end HPs suck. Had a bunch of problems with that laptop. There are a lot of good laptops in your range. I just saw one the other day that I'll try and link you soon
